Packing for a Disney Cruise girls’ trip can feel trickier than it needs to, especially when you’re trying to travel light. With my Bahamian sailing aboard the Disney Destiny almost here, it’s finally time to narrow down what goes into my suitcase. After many Disney cruises, I’ve learned what’s truly important and what can be left at home.

Because this is an adults-only Disney Cruise vacation, the items in my suitcase will be casual, comfortable, fun and lightweight. I’ll be packing a carry-on suitcase only. Between winter travel in Ontario, train connections and hotel stays, lighter is better.

Carry-On Travel Basics for a Snow-to-Beach Disney Cruise

Travelling from Toronto in February adds an extra layer of planning. I want to leave my winter coat at home, so I’ll be wearing my Disneyland hoodie door to door. It’s warm enough for trains, planes and automobiles and easy to stash later.
 

My other must-haves include:

• Comfortable sneakers for travel days

• Lightweight crossbody bag for transit and airports

• Reusable water bottle

• Chargers for my devices

• Packing cubes to keep clothing organized

I’ll be staying overnight in Toronto before and after flights, so I’m packing one neutral outfit that works twice for travel days.

A Capsule Wardrobe for a 4-night Disney Cruise

Re-wearing pieces is the secret to packing light. I like to build outfits around a simple colour palette which changes depending on the season and the cruise theme. For example, a Very Merrytime cruise will include lots of reds and greens, while a Pixar Day at Sea might include more pastels and brightly coloured pieces.
 

Here’s what’s going in my suitcase:

• 2 casual daytime dresses

• 1 stylish dress for evening wear

• 1 pair of lightweight and versatile pants

• 1 pair of denim shorts

• 3 mix-and-match tops or Disney tees

• 1 sweater or hoodie

• 1 swimsuit, plus a quick-dry cover-up

Special Outfits to Plan for Onboard Disney Cruise Events

Disney cruises always include a few themed evenings or activities, and this one is no exception. During the cruise, I’ll be participating in the popular “Pirates on the Caribbean” celebration, as well as an elevated dinner experience at Palo Steakhouse. 

Pack a special outfit for girls’ night out at Enchanté or Palo Steakhouse.

 

Items to Bring For Pirate Night:

• Casual pirate tee or dress

• Lightweight leggings or shorts

• Minnie Ears with a pirate twist

• Fun earrings and accessories

For Palo Steakhouse:

Dinner at Palo Steakhouse deserves something elevated, so I’m packing one simple dress to wear with my simple flats and a pair of special earrings.

Beach Day Essentials for Disney Castaway Cay and Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point

Both of the Disney Cruise Line private island destinations in the Bahamas are beautiful, with adults-only white sand beaches and turquoise waters to relax and unwind in. Overpacking isn’t needed.

I always include:

• Disney-themed tote I can use as a beach bag

• Reef-safe sunscreen

• Sunglasses and hat

• Flip-flops

• Waterproof phone pouch
